Style Canvas: Decorate with dark green

Question: Is it possible to create a glamorous living area with a dark green carpet? The brief is you can do anything you want to the room except replace the carpet. So any colour, any furniture ... it’s wide open.

When I first saw a photo of the carpet, it reminded me of summertime: the restful, inviting hue of an old forest, one that says, “Come on in and put your feet up.” It’s a sense of natural peace and tranquillity, a summer-day ambience that I hope to bring to life in this room.

Styling advice:
Blending dark green with oak and beech creates a relaxed mood that offers an inviting background for neutral colours offset by black and white accessories. A vase (or two) filled with colourful blooms infuses the room with a sense of enthusiasm the way only nature can. Oversized scatter cushions invite relaxation, while gold accessories, such as these lamps or small candle holders, add dramatic elements.

What do you think? Do you like this solution?

That room is not ideal with the dark green carpet. I like your take on it.... I just wish there were another window to bring in some light to that room. I agree that some varying greens and wood tones will help. I don't think it's going to be easy, though!

Good luck!! Can't wait to see what you do with it!!

I like your example using the yellow area rug. It would lighten & brighten the space. You're right, toss pillows would help add texture pattern & interest. Nice style collages!

Excellent job. Green is very hard to live with. A little goes a long way and lot is well... a lot. I would say that this would work temporarily because one might become "tired of it" after too many years.

The first might appeal to more people due to the "homey" feel however, the second one is more interesting imho. The white sofa is perfect to offset all of the green however, while the masculine and busy style works it might be a little too casual. The dark green tones in the second picture are beautiful.

Thanks for all your comments.
♡ To Shari, you're right! the task is tough and the dark green carpet is really strong element that really need a clearly defined colour scheme to make it chic and glamorous! It would be great to have more windows and more light to lift up the dark tone.

♡ To Cyndi & Jackie, I'm glad you agree with the styling :)

♡ To Viexperiment, thanks for you valued opinion.

Hi Elaine, glad that you like the inspiration, which is come from living and surrounding with all the greenery:) just looking outside my window and what I can see, it's all green!.
The green carpet was difficult to work with but I thought it would be a good case study for anyone who has trouble with intense and dramatic colour.
