LOVE open fire

Winter is coming to Australia.

Love sitting around the campfire?

Wouldn't it be nice if we could sit around an open fire in our own lounge room ... with a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread and thou?

The Fusion is a rectangular shaped fireplace.

A freestanding piece of furniture designed to accept the EcoSmart™ Burner, the EcoSmart™ Fusion features a double opening with a “see-through” effect. The EcoSmart™ Fire Fusion is designed for installation in units, apartments, houses, and commercial premises including offices, bars & restaurants.

DIY seating bench

I just came across this brilliant tutorial for making a seating bench out of IKEA cabinetry. The finished product looks great and it shows how much difference a little creativity can make. I love seating benches by windows. They’re so cosy and comfortable and I’d love to have one in my house.

space-saving

The space-saving furniture in the video is mind-blowing. The design and engineering work cleverly together, but what is more attractive is how things stay steady when the shelves or bed are pulled out! Each piece has at least two functions.

If you liked the Domestic transformer video, I bet you’ll love this one too.

Giravolta
The Giravolta table begins as a beautiful console that folds open to become a functional dining table in seconds.

The Single coffee table contains a top that lifts up and moves forward with one simple motion, creating the perfect dining or working surface in your living room.

Milan Design Week 2010

Last week, after three days of fever, I was left not only with a sore throat but I also had no energy and a splitting headache. Anyway, after lots of antibiotics and plenty of mint tea, I’m feeling as right as rain.
I spent the rest of the week flipping through Vogue Living (July/August 2010) with its free DVD report from Milan Design Week. This was awesome and inspired me to drag myself from my sickbed to continue my battle in the world of design.
Here’s a sneak peek at Vogue Living’s DVD coverage of Milan Design Week:
Strung above the famous fashion street of Via Montenapoleone are huge lanterns that light up the night.

The Invisibles by Tokujin Yoshioka for Kartell

These LED pendant lamps are made from recycled paper and re-create the shimmering effect of crystal chandeliers.

Maurizio Galante with his 'Drago' bedspread
A bedspread formed from hundreds of raised motifs which in unison create voluminous waves of triangular pleats.

This massive chandelier, "Stella”, by Tokujin Yoshioka, is a large crystal dandelion hung from the ceiling in a room full of white haze.

On the bright side of being sick, I had a trip to Milan without ever leaving the comfort of my daybed: not too bad!

+ Papaya

Decorating through the decades

photo credit :: decor55 ::

Papaya is chock-full of antiques and vintage treasures. The shop, which is the size of a small warehouse, is located at Ladpraw in Bangkok, Thailand.
photo credit :: pixpros ::

It’s kind of an adventure through three stories of antiques, secondhand furniture and vintage accessories. With more than 10,000 items to choose from, I’m sure you will find something that will stir up some fond memories.

It’s amazing that the owner can remember where everything is, and its price!

Also, if you get bored with the item you bought, you can return it and pay only 30% of the full price.
I would love to have a shop like this close to where I live.

Add a touch of vintage style to your home with this all-time favorite.

Remind yourself of the good things in life 24 hours a day with these vintage retro clocks.

This gorgeous lounge with handcrafted elements could transform an entire room for a ‘wow!’ effect.

+ alcove sofa

A sofa can be much more than just a piece of furniture. This is especially true of the Alcove Highback Sofa, whose side and back panels reach an exceptional height.
When someone sits down on the Alcove Highback, they find themselves in a secluded space.
Thanks to the outstanding acoustic qualities of the Alcove Highback Sofa and its function as a visual screen, it creates a peaceful oasis — especially in spacious living areas.
This effect is even more pronounced when two sofas are positioned face to face, thereby defining a room within a room.

+ MUJI

Since opening their first store in Japan in 1980, MUJI has won worldwide acclaim for its earth-friendly products. The MUJI philosophy is threefold: simple, functional and affordable. They are also noted for their use of innovative materials and efficient packaging to keep costs down.

In the world of marketing, where everyone is trying to create a brand identity, MUJI has gone ‘brand-free’.
The name MUJI is derived from ‘Mujirushi (no brand) Ryohin (quality goods)’, and gives MUJI a unique place in the market.

In MUJI products, there is nothing superfluous, over processing is eliminated, and shapes and forms are clean and uncluttered for ease of manufacturing. Products are wrapped in recycled materials or clear cellophane in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get approach that says goodbye to expensive packaging.

In store, MUJI offers a peaceful, Zen-like environment with products ranging from stationery, clothing, kitchenware, household items, gifts and accessories.

+ Bleu Nature

Bleu Nature presents a range of unique creations with that hard-to-find “wow” factor.

The collection is a mixture of rustic design combining free-spirited, untamed material with sleek, modern lines.

After combing the beaches for unusual pieces of storm-tossed driftwood, it’s back to the studio, where all members of the team collaborate on the design and production of these one-of-a-kind products.

I have selected some pieces for my current project. They match my colour scheme perfectly.

+ Les Indiennes

Les Indiennes is a joint production of Mary Mulcahy and Indian designer Srinivas Pitchuka. Together, they design and produce eco-friendly fabrics from organically grown cotton and natural dyes.

The cloth is made entirely by hand using India's traditional Kalamkari method, an intricate process requiring 40 days, great skill and untold patience. Sun-bleached, naturally dyed cottons are hand-blocked with carved wood dipped in ayurvedic dyes derived from plants, roots, earth and rock.

Les Indiennes has retail showrooms in America, Europe, South Africa, and Australia and offer an online flipbook for design inspiration.

+ gypsy caravan

I’m having a self-invited guest come and stay with me, so I’m planning a welcome party. Gypsy caravan inspired me to have a get-together in my front yard. It’s going to be a fantabulous party!

Here’s a few ideas from them …
Create a vibrant scene with jewel-bright colours.

Use lots of cushions for comfort.

Place a few seats close together so guests can group comfortably. Mix and match garden chairs to create a relaxed look.

Hanging patio lanterns creates a charming ambiance.

After the party, this caravan still looks fab in the garden!
