Style Canvas: Feeling Blue

This is a question from a teenage girl looking for an advice on brightening and modernising her room.
Question:
I need to decorate my bedroom, which has very light blue walls. I’m looking to add some color with decorative pillows, blinds or curtains, and some other accessories.
How would you incorporate them into the room?
As much detail as possible would be great as decorating isn't my strong point. I just mainly want colors that will look beautiful.

Styling advice
Designers draw inspiration from everything and this month, my inspiration comes from this fashion shot, particularly the playful way the light blue interacts with the coral and yellow. These three colours would be perfect for a teenager’s bedroom.

So, I couldn't resist putting together a mood board to illustrate the look. To enliven the white base and light blue tone, incorporate a mix of furniture styles, warm hues, colourful accessories and textiles to create a whimsically romantic boudoir that is both funky and welcoming.

Blue is famously easy to live with. Add a splash of white for a combination that won’t date. You only have to change the accent colour to create a different look for any time of year.

Feeling blue is not too bad, is it? Share your blue ideas with us and brighten everybody’s day.

PS: If you know anyone who needs some free styling advice, feel free to share the love.

Wow! Suki - thank god I found you! I have a terrible sense of design and now I know exactly what blog I'll be following for guidance on decorating my home (and what I wear!) I love the idea of coral and blue together and would have never thought that! Thank you!!!

I love the idea of a mood board! I'm style clueless and incapable, but a mood board I can do!

Thanks for such a simple idea. I think I'll get started on one for my family room right now...

Suki, I am not a designer but love the idea of a "mood board" and love the one you created here. Would love to hear more about tips for creating one. If you already created a post about that, I would love the link! :)

I LOVE color, Suki! It does amazing things for lifting my mood - and blues and greens are wonderfully calming. Thank for the mood board idea. I consider color in everything - from what clothes I wear to elicit a particular feeling to the foods I eat - I determine what goes into a dish I am making depending on the color needed. What a fun blog, thank you!

Suki~I love this! The blue with the coral and white with neutral, natural tones. Perfect for summer, for a young woman.

And, it is so true, you could just change one of the accents to give it a whole other feel

Thanks for this post. So refreshing!

love the moodboard.. the accent colors you chose play off each other perfectly.. and it's great how you included not just items that seem decorative, but things like an iphone cover that may not be part of the room, but might sit on the table and add color.. they might as well blend in!

oh Suki! Where were you when I lived in my bright blue room? :) I did everything I could think of to create a sense of balance in that room. Wish I'd known you then. And I'm so glad I do now. Love, love this mood board. ~Loralee

I had to laugh when reading this because before I met my wife I existed with only white walls.
Blue is a pretty important color for me because I wear it on every acting audition. Not only does it really work for me, but it gives me both confidence and tranquility. BTW loved the idea of puttting together a mood board!

What a great way to help someone see how to work with certain colors, a "moodboard". I could so easily see what I could do with my room and the color combos, if I were your reader. And that is something I often have a hard time visualizing. Those colors are gorgeous. Perfectly summer!
